Shahid- Shraddha leave for Kashmir to shoot Haider
Vishal Bhardwaj left for Kashmir on Wednesday to shoot Haider, the desi Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor who play the desi Hamlet and Ophelia are expected to arrive in Kashmir later this week. Haider would be shot in two schedules in Kashmir, one over this winter and the next during summer 2014. Says a source close to the project, "Haider will have two looks. Kashmir in winter and Kashmir in summer. Shahid will play Hamlet in a modern Kashmiri context with the unrest in the Valley forming a backdrop. And yes, Kashmir would be prominently featured and named in the film." This, after the J &K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's misgivings that Kashmir would once again be misrepresented in a Bollywood film. Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which was partially shot in Kashmir demurred in naming Kashmir and passed it off as Manali. Says a source close to the project, "The script clearly named Kashmir as the place that Ranbir, Deepika, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki visit in the course of the plot's journey. Being a Karan Johar production there was no problem in getting the necessary permission. Omar Abdullah played host to Ayan, Ranbir and Deepika. However when the film was released Kashmir was passed off as Manali." Vishal however, has no problems, in owning up to Kashmir as the land of his plot. Says a source close to his project, "Vishal is very comfortable in Kashmir. In fact he shot one major chunk of 7 Khoon Maaf in Kashmir. Haider will be the first Hindi film since Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission: Kashmir to be shot entirely in the Valley."

Why Aman Ki Asha became Total Siyappa
A lot of pre-release publicity is being heaped on the new comedy Total Siyappa. But the behind-the-scenes back-story of how the film lost its original title is far more interesting than Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam trying hard to be funny and cute at the media events. The film was originally titled Aman Ki Asha, as it fitted in nicely with the concept of the Indo-Pak story. However, the title is closely and inextricably associated with a cultural peace plan initiated by a publishing house. Hence calling the film Aman Ki Asha would not only have seemed an extension of the campaign mooted by the publishing house, it also might have been an infringement of copyright. When asked, director E. Niwas says the old title just didn't fit in. "We didn't want people to think it was another Veer-Zara kind of love story," says Niwas, leaving you wondering what's wrong with Veer-Zara. Also, if Total Siyappa is a love story about an Indian girl and a Pakistani boy, what is wrong with it being perceived as one? The film written by Neeraj Pandey was directed by E. Niwas in London in an air of supreme secrecy. Pandey whose first film A Wednesday was a critical and commercial winner and was remade into three languages, has scripted the remake of a 2004 Spanish film Seres Queridos (Only Human), a comic love story of a Jewish girl and Palestinian boy, which has been transposed by Pandey into an Indo-Pak setting. Pandey's protagonists in the Hindi remake of Seres Queridos are an Indian girl named Asha and a Pakistani boy named Aman. Predictably the film was called Aman Ki Asha as it also conveys a deep-felt message on amity across the border. Then the title went for a toss. Interestingly, Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday was not only remade into Tamil and Telugu, it was also remade into the English language under the title A Common Man with Ben Kingsley and Ben Cross playing the roles originally played in Pandey's film by Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.

I am starting my next film titled Love Story - Rahul Rawail
Rahul Rawail, the filmmaker who gifted Hindi cinema such precious actors as Sunny Deol (Betaab), Kajol (Bekhudi), Aishwarya Rai (Aur Pyar Ho Gaya) and Amrita Singh (Betaab) is all set to unleash more fresh talent in a new film that he says, he is starting in April 2014. Interestingly, Rawail who seemed to have thrown in his towel after directing the ill-received risque comedy Buddha Mar Gaya in 2007, has named his new love story after his 1981 blockbuster Love Story which launched the careers of Rajendra Kumar's son Kumar Gaurav and Vijayta Pandit. Halfway through that 1981 film, Rawail had a fall-out with producer Rajendra Kumar. Rawail's name did not appear in the credits of Love Story. Now is his chance to get his name as director into Love Story. Says Rahul, "I am directing another film called Love Story. It bears no resemblance to the old film of that title." Rahul describes the new Love Story as a, "young contemporary love story with two new boys and two new girls in the lead." So far only one of the female leads has been finalized. "We hope to finalize the other three actors soon. I've also finalized Binod Pradhan to do the cinematography." The music has always been important in Rahul Rawail's films. So it would be this time too. "As long as R D Burman was there he did my music. But now I don't know who will fit the bill," rues Rawail. The old Love Story had R D Burman's memorable melodies like 'Teri yaad aa rahi hai' and 'Dekha mein dekha hai ek sapna'. "I don't know if I can create the same magic. But I'll try my best," promises the 63-year old director who once was obese but has now lost 40 kgs. "I feel like a new person. Hopefully, Love Story would be a new beginning for me," says Rahul.

Hamara Bajaj to get another title
Squabbles for titles are nothing new. Prabhu Dheva's Rambo Rajkumar has been forced to delete the 'Rambo' from the title. Sanjay Leela Bhansali could not get the title Ram Leela. To ensure legal safety the title is subtitled with 'Goliyon Ki Raas Leela.' Now comes the news that Shoojit Sircar's next film to be produced by John Abraham would no longer be called Hamara Bajaj, as the scooter company of that name has objected to the title. However Shoojit seems unperturbed by the development. Says the director, "It was never a title registered with us. It was on our wish list. So there is no issue. When I actually get down to writing the script, I will think of a title." A source close to the project adds, "After Vickey Donor, John, Shoojit and Ayushmann Khurrana wanted to come together in a film with a quirky title. Since Ayushmann's character was named Bajaj in the film they hit upon the title. But now it seems a filmmaker has to make sure that his film's title has no names in it. Rambo and Bajaj have already made their displeasure felt. Who knows who's next in line?" Not Krrish, we hope.
